Old-House Heavyweights

Pre-war Pittsburgh houses give up cast-iron tubs, radiators and other heavy fixtures during a rehab. They’re heavy enough to need their own line on the quote.

Steel items go to scrap recycling wherever possible.

Why the Curb Isn’t an Option

The City of Pittsburgh’s bulk program lists construction waste among the things it won’t collect, and Mt. Lebanon’s contracted hauler turns it away too.

Carpet and fencing are the one near-exception inside the City: they can go out in bundles light and short enough for a crew to hand-lift. Everything else from a remodel — drywall, cabinets, tile, fixtures — needs a hauler or a dumpster. A load pickup avoids a dumpster sitting on a narrow street for a week.

Construction Debris FAQs

Will the City of Pittsburgh pick up renovation debris?

No. Construction waste is on the City’s list of items it doesn’t collect curbside.

How is remodel debris priced?

By volume — $120 per cubic yard, or $241 for a quarter truck. Photos of the pile set the number.

Can you remove a cast-iron tub?

Yes, for $185, carried out of the bathroom and down the stairs.

Do you take brick and concrete?

Yes. Masonry is heavy, so it’s billed per quarter truck — $219.

Can you pick up from the alley behind a rowhouse?

Yes. Tell us about alley access when you book and the truck will use it.

Do you work for contractors?

Yes. Contractors and homeowners book the same way, and repeat pickups can be scheduled through a project.
